The Malta-EU Steering and Action Committee (MEUSAC) will be organising¸ on October 19¸ 2011¸ the fourth of a series of seminars related to the ‘Europe 2020’ strategy. The ‘Europe 2020’ strategy has been drawn up to tackle the challenges of the economic crisis and to turn the EU into a smart¸ sustainable and inclusive economy¸ increasing employment¸ productivity and social cohesion across Europe. It is through the contribution of all citizens that it will be possible to reach the targets set.
This fourth seminar will tackle the Digital Agenda within the ‘Europe 2020’ strategy. The digital agenda for Europe aims to promote high-speed internet and reap the benefits of a digital single market for households and firms. European firms only have one quarter of the global demand for information and communication technologies. Europe is also falling behind on high-speed internet¸ which affects its ability to innovate¸ including in rural areas¸ as well as on the on-line dissemination of knowledge and on-line distribution of goods and services.
The seminar will include presentations on the targets set within ‘Europe 2020’ to deliver sustainable economic and social benefits from a Digital Single Market based on fast and ultra fast internet and interoperable applications. The themes to be discussed in the workshops include: Broadband and the digital single market; E-skills and E-inclusion; Keeping safe on the internet; and using technology to improve the quality of life.
